Colonia
This MiniNature Reserve is named after thebeloved host plant of the Monarch Butterfly."Milkweed," as it is often referred to in English,is not just an important plant for theecosystem; it is also important culturally. Thedried stalks have been used—and are stillused—by the Chumash to make cordage.Another use is evident in the Spanish namealgodoncillo ("little cotton"). In fact, the fluffy, silky fibers attached to the seeds makeexcellent fluff for teddy bears and pillows.
