Every Spring, we host Mustard Removal Parties throughout the Ventura and Los Angeles Counties.
Black mustard (Brassica nigra) is a highly invasive species that displaces native plants. It is especially harmful to the ecosystem, because it releases toxins that inhibit the germination of native plants. This allows the plants to completely take over a whole hillside. During the summer, these mustard plants completely dry up and die, posing a huge risk for wildfires and mudslides.
Here at MNR, we believe that stewarding nature is not about setting aside a piece of land and leaving it alone. First Nations know this and continue to prove to this day that continued hands-on management the land and its nature is vital to ecosystem health. We are not apart from nature. We are a part of nature.
That is why we meet. It's a fun way to improve ecosystem health and connect with other people.
We ask our volunteers to bring: water, good hiking boots, sun protection
We provide: gloves, snacks, t-shirts, extra liability waivers, first aid kit
Thank you!
